There’s a Tropicool change coming to Manly with the arrival of a new Açai and Superfruit store which has just opened its doors on the Corso.
While this certainly isn’t the first açai bowl in town, this is the first Northern Beaches store for Tropicool, which has around 60 stores globally selling açai bowls, açai cones, drinks and artisan sandwiches.
The opening was celebrated with free açai, and a performance by DJs The Miskin Brothers = the first of what will be regular ‘Sol & Sound’ events. There will also be a recurring student deal, to be announced on the Tropicool social media pages.
As you can probably tell, Tropicool specialises in açai and literally has its roots in Brazil.
(This is how you pronounce the name of the food properly for those curious.. It’s pronounced ah-sigh-ee.)
Tropicool set themselves apart from competitors by commitment to the connection between healthy foods, human health, and environmental health.
“We believe companies should acknowledge these connections and be leaders for sustainability and social responsibility,” says Tropicool Australia’s Founder, Brandon Hsu.
Tropicool Brazilian founders Maurício, Caio, and Rafael have all visited the Amazon to observe the harvesting and processing of açaí berries firsthand, as well as to better understand the state of the Amazon basin.
Tropicool’s açaí is sourced from Castanhal, Pará, where they say they have strong relationships with local growers and harvesters, ensuring the highest quality product and supporting the local economy.
For every 10 litres of Tropicool pulp sold worldwide, a tree is planted in the Amazon through the brand’s partnership with the NGO (non-governement organisation) SOS Amazônia, which is dedicated to reforestation in the region.
So far several thousand trees have been planted.
So much for the feelgood factor – what about the taste?!
“Tropicool’s dedication to quality has earned recognition from Michelin-star chefs, who awarded Tropicool its ‘superior taste’ award at the International Taste Awards in Brussels in both 2023 and 2024,” Brandon says.
“While the açaí market is competitive, Tropicool’s açaí stands out with the highest concentration available in a tetra pack, packed with all the incredible nutritional benefits of this superfruit.
“Tropicool is committed to providing the most natural and authentic açaí experience possible. Its pulps are crafted from premium, certified organic ingredients, ensuring that every bowl is bursting with flavour and goodness.
The brand prides itself on being the only one to package its açaí pulp using a unique aseptic process that adheres to ISO standards, guaranteeing a shelf-stable, preservative-free, and safe product. Aseptic processing is a method that uses state-of-the-art sterilisation to lengthen product shelf-life and safely preserve food products without preservatives. This allows the product to be stored at room temperature while maintaining nutritional properties, texture and flavour. (Yay to more fridge space and less food waste!)
Tropicool has adopted the saying ‘same same but different’. While the product is still açaí at its core, it is these unique qualities that set Tropicool apart as leaders in the world of açaí, making them truly ‘different’.
About açaí
This Brazilian fruit, found exclusively in the Amazon Forest come from palms. Açaí palms are slow-growing and can take several years to reach maturity and bear fruit. They can grow up to 30 metres high and once established, they produce multiple crops of berries annually. The berries grow in clusters and are harvested by hand.
The berries are then pulped to create the purple ‘gold’ that is açaí.
