BOLD, CURVY AND INDEPENDENT: Highgrove Bathrooms Brookvale shares what’s selling in the modern Northern Beaches Bathroom

When Manly Observer popped into the seriously pretty and impressively large Highgrove Bathrooms Brookvale showroom last week to meet its owner Jim Crosland, who opened the store in 2015, we had just two big questions for him:

  • Why should anyone buy from you and not the other scores of bathroom sellers around town and,
  • Does anyone ever sit on these very public toilet displays to see if it feels right on their tush?

To the latter question, Jim laughs, but then responds in earnest: “Oh absolutely. People want their toilet to feel just right and that’s not something you can tell if you just buy online. People hop into our bathtubs, too,” he reveals.

“The stand-alone style is really big at the moment,” he says while gesturing to a collection of baths right along the shop window.”

I’m trying to appreciate their design prowess, but I keep giggling at the thought of my shy 6’2 husband languishing in a public bathtub with no water in it.

I’m pleased to learn only one person has taken trial of their display toilets too far, and it was a child in one of the stores Jim first worked in up in Queensland.  See, Jim started working in the original Highgrove Bathrooms store. His brother Nick later invested in new stores up  Queensland while Jim, an incredibly sweet chap with a two-year-old at home, took on the Brookvale and Summer Hill stores in NSW.  The store manager Bill, and all of the staff, are Beaches locals.

You can tell Jim backs what he sells.

“To your first point, why buy from us,” Jim continues, “There’s a few reasons, all our products are designed by our product development here in Australia. We source and manufacture innovative and high-quality bathroom products; without the ridiculous price tags attached, which you will see from other bathroom brands.

“Most of the other places you just go through their catalogues and order into the country – they order from importers and often its six to eight weeks to get your product, too. Here if you see something you like you can usually take it home that day, we hold stock on site here in our warehouse at Brookvale.”

I know if my home needed a toilet, I’d want it sooner rather than later, I tell him.

In what must be a hefty investment, Jim has recently rented the building next door to house all of the products they store for sale.  The showroom was then completely redone to make it a more attractive and functional space. I have to say… It’s rather satisfying being able to see Highgrove Bathrooms’ entire range on display, being able to touch and compare products side by side easily is a renovator dream.

Most of his customers aren’t the building trades but local men and women wanting to design their own bathroom spaces, he explains, so Jim and his team have a profound understanding of what is trending in local homes. This piques my curiosity, as I float around the showroom asking for the best sellers in each category.

The verdict is clear – Matte Black, timber and curvy is in. Matte Black tapware, shower outlets and bathroom fittings, especially, as well as standalone everything – basins that sit on top of vanity rather than an inset basin, freestanding baths that aren’t boxed in with tiles.

“We stand by our products and offer exceptional post-sale support. Our bathroom fittings, accessories and outlets have been designed in Australia and meet the highest quality standards. With warranties of up to 15yrs,” Jim says.

Come into Highgrove Bathrooms Brookvale, speak to Jim, Bill, Jai or Steven for a FREE bathroom design consultation and browse their affordable and extensive range of bathroom products. Have a sit on their toilets too, if you dare.
