This is an old version of the story – please read the updated report here.
Update: A man has joined Detectives at Manly Police Station to assist them with enquiries after a dead body was located in an apartment complex in Dee Why this morning, 15 July.
Police have redacted a previous statement that the man had been arrested at the scene, but confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious at this stage. It is important to note that a case being treated as suspicious does not mean it IS suspicious. They await autopsy results. (Please see updated report that it is no longer suspicious here)
Two public order and riot squad vehicles and more than ten police units as well as three ambulance units remained on scene all morning, 15 July 2024, as authorities worked to piece together what had occurred at or near the units at Ilikai Place, Dee Why, a quiet cul-de-sac after the dead body of a 41 year old man was found in the parking lot.
Manly Observer understands there are witnesses claiming to have seen a body being relocated before its eventual discovery in the parking lot.
The 37-year-old man assisting with enquiries was known to the deceased, police confirmed, and lived in the apartment complex where the body was found.
Riot Squad eventually forcibly entered the premises before the man joined detectives at the station.
Residents told Manly Observer they were shocked to discover multiple emergency vehicles and officers surrounding their apartments this morning. “We woke up to everyone in the apartment texting each other trying to figure out what was going on,” one resident said, “I have a three-year-old who I was supposed to take to preschool.”
Police confirmed in a statement that they were notified of the dead body at 7.11am this morning.
“Police have established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
They issued a subsequent amended statement:
“A man is assisting police with inquiries after a body was found on the Northern Beaches.”
Police held a press conference at Dee Why Police Station just after 2pm today but could provide little further information, other than the death was being treated as suspicious and there were no obvious signs of struggle.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
