The 12-hectare burn will extend from Darmour Avenue, down to Owen Stanley Avenue and Derna Cresent as per the below map. The boundaries are not precise, rather an indication of the general burn areas.

Residents adjacent to the burn area are required to conduct property maintenance to reduce the risk of embers causing damage. FRNSW asks for residents near the hazard burn area to:

  • Clear vegetation and leaf litter from fences, storage containers, sheds, power poles and machinery.
  • Maintain a clear area near combustible materials such as wood piles.
  • Maintain an area of mown grass around residential dwelling and buildings.
  • Clear gutters of leaf debris.

Hazard reduction is an important part of preparing for bush fires to help protect people, property and the environment. Fire agencies work to minimise the impact of smoke from the hazard reduction. They’ve asked local residents to take the following safety precautions during the burn:

  • Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering homes.
  • Keep outdoor furniture and trampolines under cover to prevent ember burns, including retracting pool covers.
  • Remove washing from clotheslines.
  • Ensure pets have a protected area.
  • Drivers travelling on the roads near the burn need to adhere to traffic controllers and emergency services directions, including slowing down, keeping their windows closed and turning their headlights on.
  • Sightseers must keep away from the burn area.
  • If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high. If you develop shortness of breath or coughing, take your reliever medication or seek medical assistance.
  • No drones or Remote Piloted Aircraft are to be flown near the burns – penalties apply.

Information will be updated on the NSW Rural Fire Service website here, or available on the Hazards Near me NSW app – Apple Users or Android Users.
