Man’s death in Dee Why not suspicious

Police are no longer treating the death of a 40-year-old man at Dee Why last week as suspicious.

Residents originally discovered a dead body in the carpark of a unit complex at Ilikai Place  early on Monday morning, 15 July.

Suspicions were raised after residents reported seeing what appeared to be a body being transferred earlier. Throughout the morning at least ten police units, including a known police negotiator and a tactical response unit, spoke to another man at the complex.

Despite reportedly forcing entry, police soon retracted a claim they had arrested a 37 year old man who lived at the complex, and instead revised that he was assisting them with enquiries.  At the time the death was still being treated as suspicious.

However, Police confirmed with Manly Observer today, 23 July,  that while the cause of death could only be determined by the Coroner, they were no longer treating the matter as suspicious having completed their investigations.

Our condolences to the family.
