Firies save house as shed is engulfed in flames in Collaroy Plateau

A Collaroy Plateau family has had their home spared thanks to a fast emergency response to a fierce shed fire this morning.

At 10am today, Monday 2 February, a fire was detected quickly building strength from the back of the Fuller Street property.

“We responded with four trucks with crews from Narrabeen, Dee Why and Mona Vale fire stations,” Acting Superintendent Kevin Smith from Fire and Rescue NSW said.

“On the way, crews saw a large amount of smoke and huge flames, at least three to four metres in the air.”

Crews found the back garden shed completely engulfed in flames. They were able to contain the fire to the shed.

The adjacent house and the adjacent fence sustained damage, but Fire and Rescue NSW said there could have been much more significant damage if it hadn’t been for the community’s quick calls for help and the crews’ tactics to control the fire. A teen neighbour did their best to hold off the fire with a hose.

There were no injuries to any of the occupants and no injuries to the firefighters.

“Crews worked really well and controlled the fire within eight minutes of arrival, and had it extinguished and fully mopped up within 25 minutes of arrival,” Acting Superintendent Smith added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation though there is no evidence to suggest it relates to an -e-bike or lithium battery. The family told Manly Observer one theory was that it related to a power failure overnight.

They said they were relieved no one was home at the time and their dog was safe. Their home has been spared and they won’t need to find alternative accomodation.
