Sex offender sentenced to prison after Collaroy child approach leads to assault

A man who was arrested after leading a child away and assaulting him as well as his father in Collaroy was sentenced to 12 months prison at Manly Local Court today, 14 January 2026.

Kitchie Knoss appeared before the court this afternoon via Audio Visual Link while in custody, placing his head in his hands as Magistrate Daniel Reiss read out the 44-year-old’s previous charges and convictions.

Knoss has an extensive criminal record spanning over two decades with charges relating to common assault, sexual touching of a child, driving offences and drug and alcohol use. His most recent sentencing involved three guilty pleas of assault from an altercation in Collaroy last year, 10 October.

This incident involved following a 12-year-old boy and his father to Mr Gelato’s ice cream shop near Collaroy Street before aggressively taking the child by the shoulder away from the store, claiming his father to be a paedophile. Knoss then proceeded to assault the boy’s father who attempted to intervene, throwing a bottle at him and then striking him in the face with a fist.

The altercation led to both men wrestling on Pittwater Road before members of the public stepped-in. The police were called and Knoss was arrested shortly after, attempting to leave on a B1 bus.

The defence argued a Community Corrections Order (CCO) sentence under strict supervision as well as rehabilitation services to prevent reoffending. This was denied by Magistrate Reiss due to public safety concerns.

In relation to the reasoning for his recent crimes the defence said Knoss relayed “he was just being an idiot,” before apologising for being drunk and disorderly admitting to needing “to work on himself.” He claimed to have relapsed with his drinking before the incident but had been “working out” and plans to continue the activity post-prison.

Before his October arrest, he was charged three times in January for disobeying conditions of a CCO placed on him for 12 months for sexually touching a child between the ages of 10 and 16 in November 2024.

The breached conditions included having his underage nephew stay at his residence, possessing multiple identity cards with a name not previously disclosed to police and having an email address and internet user names not registered to authorities.

The facts sheet disclosed Knoss told police it stressed him out always having to be electronically monitored as it affected his ability “to do what he wanted.”

The defendant said the name listed on the identity cards, Kitchie Knoss, was his English name, previously registering Kitione Nasalo as his actual name to police. Court documents further reveal 20 other aliases he used.

Although his address is listed in Minto, social media posts suggest he was a frequent visitor in the area via Manly Ferry.

Knoss was charged with two counts of common assault and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with a backdate of 96 days already served in custody. He is due for release on 10 October this year, and will be eligible for parole in April.
