A 40-year-old woman was reportedly assaulted in South Curl Curl on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 around 9 pm, on the running track along the beachfront. She told police that someone hit her from behind, verbally abused her, head-butted her, and struck her with weights.

Police are working to identify a man running on the track. He is described as approximately 175-180cm tall, with very short hair or bald, wearing black shorts and a black shirt (possibly sleeveless) and carrying hand weights. Police believe he can help with their investigation into the assault.

Between 8pm on Saturday 25 January 2025 and 1:30am the following morning, a Narrabeen unit was broken into.

Bank text message scam

On Thursday 23 January 2025, an elderly lady received a text from someone claiming to be from her bank. The message stated there was an issue with her account and she was asked to contact a phone number provided within the text. The victim followed the instructions and a man with an English accent spoke with her, advising she needed to secure her money in another account. The man asked her several questions, including her bank balance. He then instructed her how to transfer her funds into a different external bank account through online banking, which she did – it was reportedly a large amount of cash.

Police advise the community that if they receive any kind of text or e-mail indicating there is a problem with their bank account, to not follow any links or call any numbers within the message, but to rather independently look up their bank’s contact number and call to enquire if there are any issues.

Scammers are often based overseas, and police have advised that these types of scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely the victim’s funds will be recovered. If you think you’ve been scammed, immediately contact your bank and report it.
