Two young adults died after their car crashed and caught fire on Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation at Balgowlah last night.
Social media speculation relating to gun shots are false. Police also flatly deny further rumours that there was a police pursuit. They have however confirmed they will be investigating whether speed was a factor in the collision.
About 10.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 18 September 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a black Toyota Corolla crashing into a tree and catching fire along Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation, Balgowlah.
NSW Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire.
While yet to be positively identified the driver is believed to be a 23-year-old man and the passenger a 26-year-old woman.
We understand they are local to the Northern Beaches.
Both died at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services.
Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

12 Midnight: Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation at Manly Vale/Balgowlah/Seaforth is closed in both directions following a serious car crash and resulting fire at about 11pm this evening, 18 September.
Initial rumours on social media that this involved gun shots or a police pursuit do not, at this stage, appear to be substantiated.
Police say a formal statement to be issued shortly, which could indicate a fatality.
