Manly stabbing: charges laid

A 29-year-old-man has been charged  with the stabbing incident in Manly on Friday as well as an armed robbery in Chatswood just hours earlier.

About 1pm on Friday (11 June 2021), a man entered a retail store in a shopping centre on Anderson Street, Chatswood, before allegedly stealing clothing items.

It’s alleged the man left the store and when approached by a male staff member, he threatened him with a knife. The man fled and police were contacted.

In a separate incident, about 3.40pm the same day, emergency services were called to Raglan Street, Manly, following reports a man had been stabbed by an unknown man.

Police were searching for a man after a 43-year-old was stabbed on Friday.

A 43-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to Northern Beaches Hospital. He underwent surgery and has since been discharged.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While there have been reported connections between this incident and a later incident, which involved an assailant stabbing a police officer and being shot in the leg, Police have been incredibly cautious in formally confirming it is the same man.

The below video interview outside Manly Police station Friday is the official police response to the two incidents.

Police report that “Following inquiries, detectives attended Royal North Shore Hospital earlier today (Monday 14 June 2021), where they spoke to a 29-year-old man.

He was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and wound person with intent to cause previous bodily harm.”

The man remains under police guard in a stable condition.

He is expected to appear at Manly Local Court via bedside hearing tomorrow (Tuesday 15 June 2021).
