Man accused of teen on e-bike hit and run faces court

A man accused of running over a 15-year-old on an e-bike and fleeing the scene in a fit of road rage has faced Manly Court today, May 20, 2026.

David Wittig was officially charged with driving furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm, and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

The teen who was struck in the incident was treated for serious leg injuries on the roadside by a NSW doctor from Toll Helicopter before he was transported to Randwick Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The accused man, who lives in Allambie Heights, was also charged with drive while licence application refused.

A still from a video of the alleged driver, David Wittig, supplied directly to Manly Observer from those who witnessed it.

The scenario kicked off when police allege that at around 5.30 pm last month, 27 April, the 38-year-old made an offensive gesture to a young group of e-bike riders in North Curl Curl, Abbott Road.

An argument ensued, leading Wittig to throw a water bottle at a 15-year-old before driving off again. The boy continued to follow the vehicle before blocking it at the intersection of Abbott and Pitt roads. The driver then allegedly drove his Volkswagen Tiguan into the teen, throwing him, before reversing off the e-bike and fleeing the scene.

A group of people nearby attempted to stop the man and recorded the commotion, sharing it with Manly Observer. Witness Laura was among the first to stop. “We were just driving down around the corner onto Abbott Road and saw a car fully up on the kerb. We stopped because we were like, someone has been hit. The passenger door of the car kind of opened and then slammed shut, and the driver of that car swerved out, nearly hit us, and then swerved off.”

Police attempting to apprehend the vehicle as its spending off among angry onlookers.

Two off-duty police officers were also on the scene at the time who attempted to apprehend the vehicle, but were unable to when the driver refused to stop. However, he was arrested at Dee Why Police Station an hour after the incident occurred.

No pleas were given during Wittig’s appearance in court today, and he was granted bail on the condition not contact, attempt to contact or attempt to locate any prosecution witness, to be of good behaviour and not commit any further offences, and to not occupy the drivers seat of the motor vehicle.

Wittig will reappear on 10 June for plea or mention once he receives more legal advice.
