Local Suicide Prevention Volunteers needed – Roses in the Ocean

Roses in the Ocean Northern Beaches, is a suicide prevention not-for-profit led entirely by people with a lived experience of suicide.

At Roses, we believe the most powerful support comes from those who truly understand, whether you’ve experienced suicidal thoughts, survived an attempt, lost a loved one, or supported someone through crisis, your story matters and may be what someone needs to hear to have hope.

Our Peer CARE Companion in Community program provides non-clinical, one-on-one emotional support to people feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or in quiet distress. We’re not a crisis service like Lifeline, we’re here in the before and after, in the stillness that can often feel the loneliest. We simply walk beside people, listen, and hold space and right now, we need more people to help us do that.

Roses needs the communities help to build a local team of Peer CARE Companions. All volunteers receive free extensive training, done online at your own pace.

There are also free community workshops for anyone, whether you have lived experience or not, these are the grassroots of prevention. They teach you what to look for, how to ask the hard questions like “Are you thinking about suicide?” and how to offer hope through connection.

There is a national Peer CARE Companion Warmline 1800 777 337 which is a free call-back service where people with a lived experience of suicide connect with trained peers who share similar experiences. It’s a safe, compassionate space to be heard, explore distress, and find support.

Together, we can turn isolation into connection.
