Northern Beaches Council will begin construction of a new public toilet block at Freshwater Beach in August 2026.
The standalone building, shaped by community consultation, will feature accessible toilets, a family change room, and unisex handwashing facilities. It will also include a toddler toilet within the accessibility/family change room, a first for Northern Beaches public amenities.
“Freshwater Beach is a special place for our community and attracts visitors from across the Northern Beaches and beyond,” Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said.
“This new amenities building will also provide more accessible, convenient, and family-friendly facilities, while supporting the broader improvements being delivered through the Freshwater Beach Masterplan.”
The building will be located at the northern end of Freshwater Beach Reserve, near the new playground, and forms part of the wider Freshwater Beach Masterplan works.
Completion is expected by Autumn 2027, subject to weather conditions.

A State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for two residential apartment buildings up to 13 storeys, or around 44 metres, has been submitted to NSW Planning.
This is one of two significant developments fast tracked through the Housing Development Authority (HDA).
However, as part of the HDA process, the structure was planned to be a 10-storey residential building.

Designs can still change as these are the very early stages of the DA process.
The two buildings will include 290 dwellings in one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom formats, with 10 per cent allocated as affordable housing for 15 years.
The SSDA includes a rezoning application which will see the existing R3 Medium Density Residential land use zone as is; however, the floor space ratio will change from 2.86:1 to 4.5:1 and the height limit from 28.6m to 44m. To note, R3 allows a height limit of 13m; however, under the State’s Low to Mid Rise Housing Policy, plus an affordable housing bonus, this goes up to 28.6m.

The NBLPP unanimously approved the proposal to build a new building at Elanora Country Club (ECC) for an indoor golf practice and teaching facility, plus storage space for golf carts.

The proposal required a building height variation (11.32m against the standard 8.5m) which Council and NBLPP found was adequately justified. The proposal also will see the removal of 23 trees (offset by 52 replacement trees) however, Council found that the proposed trees allocated for removal do not have a high biodiversity value.
The new building will be located adjacent to the existing golf ‘pro-shop’ and will be close to the existing Clubhouse building. It will be two levels, with the top level connected to the pro-shop. The upper level will be used for golf practice and will include six golf hitting bays, two golf teaching bays, a flexible space to be used for gym/stretching/exercise activities, a room suitable for physiotherapy or other health/wellness treatment, a sauna and ice bathroom, shower, toilet and change rooms and a space to be used for people to meet and wait to utilise the facilities.
The lower level of the new building will be used for the storage and charging of electric golf carts and the provision of storage space and other facilities supporting the operation of the Club.
