Between midnight and 1am on Monday, 28 April 2025, a 2022 merlot coloured Toyota Landcruiser and a 2024 sandy taupe coloured Toyota Landcruiser with a combined value of $270,000 were stolen from the rooftop carpark of an engineering workshop at 122-126 Old Pittwater Road, Brookvale.
The Land Cruisers were undergoing extensive modifications prior to registration. CCTV footage captured the Land Cruisers being loaded on to two waiting trucks that travelled along Old Pittwater Road and turned right onto to Pittwater Road, heading south.
The Land Cruisers are four-door twin cabs and were unregistered and did not have number plates. They are distinguished by an open chassis at the rear with no tray or canopy.
The well-organised thieves came prepared using trucks equipped with ramps. The two trucks were white, and their number plates are not known at this stage.
Northern Beaches Detectives are investigating and anyone with information about this matter is urged to contact Dee Why Police Station (9971 3399) or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000 or here).
Sextortion attempt on Mona Vale teenager
On Friday, 9 May 2025, a teenage boy communicated with a person on social media and exchanged intimate photos.
The unknown person whose phone number originated in Kenya, threatened to circulate images to the teenager’s friends if he didn’t pay a sum of money.
The teenager blocked the offender’s number, didn’t send money, told his parents, and reported the blackmail to the police. Police said this was a text book response from him.
They added the weapons used in this type of blackmail are fear, coercion, and humiliation.
More information about sextortion is available from the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au.
Facebook fail for Freshwater female
On Friday, 9 May 2025, a woman from Freshwater found a lounge on Market Place and agreed to buy it for $400. She paid a $50 deposit and the balance on the day of delivery. However, the lounge didn’t arrive.
She contacted the seller who offered some excuses and then ceased contact.
Police explained while, in this case, it’s a modest sum of money lost, it happens frequently. They recommend using an escrow account like PayPal which might trigger a fee, but it provides piece of mind and allows a seller to seek recourse if a transaction fails.
