Daring rescue as dog found on high rise ledge at Dee Why

Fire and Rescue personnel have pulled off a daring rescue of a dog stuck on the ledge of a high rise building at Dee Why this afternoon.

The dog, two year old Ellbie, had been missing since Friday 24 April from the same apartment block, Lighthouse by Meriton at Dee Why.

We understand the dog may have been spotted on the ledge by a drone operator soon after 1pm.

Four Fire and Rescue Trucks and an incident controller were on scene to perform the difficult rescue operation.

As at 3:36pm while writing this update the dog was successfully rescued from the ledge.

Superintendent Tim Hassiotis said: “This is a really great effort from our specialised vertical rescue team.

“They work on cliff faces, they rescue people, but obviously this skill can also be used to rescue canines, which they have done successfully.

“So a magnificent display of firefighter prowess and how we can come together and not only rescue people, but also rescue domestic animals, so really lovely to see Ellbie has been reunited with her owners.”

Ellbie is currently at the vets for assessment but appears to be doing well.

The dog’s owner, Alex, called Manly Observer in tears to thank locals for their incredible support. “I have never experienced community like this,” he said.

“I am just so grateful.”

“I don’t even know how I am holding it together, but my little baby is alive, and she is well.”

The man is currently overseas and had left his dog for the first time with his eighteen year old son.

He said since she was a little pup he had always been worried she could slip through the glass windows but it never presented as an issue – until now.

Owner Alex says thank you to the community
