Two suspicious fires in Allambie this afternoon ahead of Hazard Reduction

A fire that destroyed about two hectares of bushland at Allambie Heights this afternoon, 9 September, is thought to have been deliberately lit.

The fire was first spotted on the Northern End of Manly Dam and up towards the Warringah Aquatic Centre at Madison Way just before 1.30pm.

With Rural Fire Services  (RFS) as the lead combat agency, Fire and Rescue NSW units from Manly, Dee Why and Forestville assisted RFS to contain and extinguish the fire over three hours.

RFS Inspector Ben Shepherd

“There were two fires in the area that eventually linked up. Over all 2ha of bushland was burnt before the fire was contained around 4.30pm this afternoon,” confirmed RFS Inspector Ben Shepherd.

“Multiple trucks from RFS responded and… FRNSW was also on scene.”

“The fire is being treated as suspicious.”

FRNSW confirmed to Manly Observer that this does not affect planned burns for other parts of Allambie Heights tomorrow.
