Teen boys used fake $100 notes to make off with items like lollies and kept the (real) change…

Police report that a small group of teenage boys presented counterfeit notes to three different businesses at Dee Why on Monday, 29 December 2025, around 5pm.

Staff at two of the businesses became suspicious about the $100 notes and police say that scared off the offenders.

However, on venue did not realise until soon after the transaction, that a fake $100 note had been used to pay for $6 worth of lollies. Police report the teen got away not only with lollies but also $94.

Northern Beaches Police attended the stores and seized what is now an obvious counterfeit note, given it has the small print PROPS under the clear window.

The Australian Federal Police Currency Team was notified, and inquiries are continuing to identify the offenders from CCTV footage.

Police say this is a general reminder for the Northern Beaches community to be on the lookout for counterfeit $50 and $100 notes. Businesses that accept counterfeit notes unfortunately cannot be reimbursed for their loss. Police encourage shop owners to keep counterfeit notes and report the incident to the police.

Section 9 of the Crimes (Currency) Act 1981 makes it an offence to possess counterfeit money, and it carries a hefty penalty of 10 year’s imprisonment.

Police described the thief as a Caucasian man in his early thirties, around 175cm tall, with a slim build and short dark hair and beard, wearing a black T-shirt, dark-coloured shorts and thongs.

Check your post as police are warning of a spike in parcel thefts…

On Tuesday, 16 December 2025, around 12pm, several parcels were delivered to a home in North Steyne, Manly. About an hour later, CCTV footage showed a man and woman stealing the parcels and leaving in a car. The packages were valued at over $700, and the theft was reported to police on Monday, 22 December 2025.

On Tuesday, 23 December 2025, between 12:40pm and 1:30pm, unknown offenders stole a parcel from outside a home on Warringah Road, Forestville. The parcel contained computer equipment and is reportedly valued at over $3,800. Police said the owner is attempting to secure CCTV footage of the incident to provide to the police.

Police remind the community to consider extra steps for parcel security, particularly with those taking advantage of the online sales.

Police suggest installing CCTV cameras as a deterrent (unfortunately, it didn’t deter the thieves in North Steyne), having parcels delivered to a workplace or a home where the owners are always home, or asking for a signature on delivery to ensure parcels are not left unattended.

Police applaud the community for behaving on NYE…

Northern Beaches Police were out in force for New Year’s Eve 2025 with reinforcements from the North-West Metropolitan Region and the Public Order and Riot Squad.

Superintendent John Duncan, who commanded the Northern Beaches NYE police operation, reported the large crowds spread across the Beaches were generally well behaved.

Individual police officers reported positive engagements with revellers and said 2026 got off to a good start.

And some good news…

While we are talking about all things police, an update on 22-year-old Northern Beaches Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, who was stationed at the Eastern Suburbs Command and patrolling a Hanukkah event, sustained two bullet wounds during the Bondi shooting on Sunday, 14 December 2025.

While he made it home in time for Christmas, he has a long and challenging recovery ahead and lost vision in one eye because of one of the bullet wounds.

The community has rallied around the Constable, with the two official fundraisers established for Jack raising a total of $759,546 (the fundraisers are police legacy and this go fund me).
