Four people have escaped a blaze after three large yachts went up in flames at Spit Marina, Mosman, in the early hours of the morning.
At around 3.30am, January 9, 2026, over 40 Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters rushed to the scene, taking two and a half hours to extinguish the flames. During this time, one lane on the Spit Bridge was closed, which has since reopened.

“We’ve had three large yachts destroyed by fire; they have been consumed, and they’re actually sunk. We have a fourth one that has suffered significant damage, that’ll have to be assessed, that is still floating,” Fire & Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said.
“Fire and Rescue NSW are working with the EPA and the Port Authority.”
The NSW Port Authority assisted in the operation by dousing the flames with a firefighting vessel and helped, along with the EPA, remove materials from the burnt and sunken yachts that could contaminate the water, such as oils and fuels.

NSW Police were on the scene as well as NSW Ambulance where paramedics examined a number of people for smoke inhalation, including one woman who was taken to hospital in a stable condition. Four people managed to escape one of the yachts unharmed after it went up in flames. No other injuries were reported.
Operations wrapped up at 8:30am, with much of the marina inaccessible to the public and damage to property estimated to be within the millions.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, but it is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
