A boy is due in court today following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle on the Northern Beaches overnight.
Northern Beaches Highway Patrol attempted to stop a stolen ute when it was seen about 11.20pm (Thursday 2 January 2024), allegedly being driven at high speed on the Wakehurst Parkway.
One witness told Manly Observer reported seeing a “silver Ute barreling through Seaforth being followed by a police car.”
The ute was followed to West Street, Balgowlah, where a pursuit was initiated when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed.
It was followed to Sydney Road then Falcon Street where the pursuit was terminated due to the manner of driving.
Acting on information, police found the vehicle crashed in Earl Street, Mosman, and a 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby.
He was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with exceed speed over 30km/h, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and never licenced person drive on road.
The boy has been refused bail to appear in a children’s court today (Friday 3 January 2024).
The ute was confirmed as one reported stolen from Terrey Hills on Tuesday 10 December 2024.
Local police said the silver Mazda BT 50 utility had been used in three Aggravated Break and Enters in the Northern Beaches area since that day.
Inquiries are continuing into the identity of a second person believed travelling in the ute before the crash.
