New pope’s visit to the Northern Beaches

The world has a new pope – US born Robert Prevost has emerged Pope Leo XIV.

But did you know he’s got local connections?

Pope Leo is going to be the Catholic Church’s first Augustinian pope, which is exciting news for Brookvale’s St Augustine’s who hosted his holiness here on the beaches some 16 years ago. He was then Prior General of the Augustinians.

“It is the greatest honour that we could receive,” said Fr Senan Ward OSA, College Chaplain.

Jonathan Byrne, Principal said the moment “fills our community with deep pride and joy…We pray with him and for him as he takes up this new and demanding mission. “
