Lime E-Bikes Launch in Manly

E-bikes aren’t new to the Northern Beaches.

You see them everywhere now. Commuting to the ferry, cutting between suburbs, climbing hills that would usually put you off riding. In a place like Manly, they’ve quietly become one of the more practical ways to get around.

Because not every trip justifies a car, and not every trip lines up with a bus.

Sometimes it’s just quicker to ride. And from today 20 April, Lime is betting more people are ready to do exactly that.

The shared e-bike company will roll out across Manly, Fairlight, Balgowlah, Manly Vale and Queenscliff, positioning itself as an alternative for short, everyday trips.

As Lime’s Head of APAC, Will Peters puts it, the Northern Beaches is “full of short trips that don’t always need a car.”

The rollout also brings Lime’s latest model, the LimeBike, designed to make short trips easier. A lower step-through frame, better balance, built-in navigation and improved tracking all point to the same goal: making rides simple enough to use regularly.

But Lime isn’t just focusing on the ride. Fully aware of what happens after most shared e-bike trips, they’re enforcing mandatory parking zones in high-traffic areas like Manly Beach, Shelly Beach and the ferry terminal, alongside no-go zones in more sensitive spots and daily patrols managing the fleet.

It’s a more structured approach than many shared mobility rollouts, and a clear sign that Lime is trying to stay ahead of the usual pain points around parking and clutter.

And to ease into the launch, Lime is hosting two First Ride Academy sessions:

  • 20 April — Manly Ferry Wharf, 7:30am to 9:30am
  • 26 April — Manly Beach (opposite The Corso), 8:00am to 10:00am

You can try a free 20-minute ride, learn how it works and see if it fits into your routine. For regular use, Lime is also pushing its LimePrime subscription for $4.99 per month, which gets you:

  • $2.75 trips (up to 20 minutes)
  • $1.50 rides under five minutes
  • $0.29 per minute after 20 minutes
  • Free unlocks on every ride
  • 30-minute reservations

For those without their own e-bike, Lime Bikes open up a more flexible way to get around, especially for the short trips the Northern Beaches is full of.
