Groms head to Manly for GYG Surftag

Junior surfers from Newcastle thru to the NSW South Coast will be representing their local Boardriding Clubs at Queenscliff Beach, Manly this weekend in the GYG JUNIORSURFTAG. Under 14’s (Grommets) and Under 18’s (Juniors) Divisions will be contested with over 160 competitors teaming up with their mates in the tag team style event.

Long Reef Boardriders (Under 18’s) and North Shelly Boardriders (Under 14’s) will be lining up as defending champions with Long Reef currently sitting in second position on the 2023 SURFTAG SERIES RANKINGS behind North Narrabeen Boardriders.

North Narrabeen dominated last month’s WOODHILL EASTATE AGENTS SURFTAG winning the Men’s Division and finishing runners-up in the Women’s and Masters Divisions. Last year’s SURFTAG SERIES Champions Long Reef, won the Women’s Division as well as finishing 3rd in the Masters and 7th in the Men’s.

Boardriding Clubs competing on the weekend include, Merewether, North Shelly, Avoca, North Avalon, Mona Vale, North Narrabeen, Long Reef, Dee Why, Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff, North Steyne, Bondi, Bronte, Maroubra, Elouera, Scarborough, Sandon Point and Ulladulla.

Guzman y Gomez (GYG) is sponsoring young surfers from across Sydney and surrounding areas.

SURFTAG SERIES Contest Director Steve Harrison is excited for a big weekend of club surfing, 

“Long Reef and North Narrabeen battled for the series win last year and the same two clubs are leading the charge in this year’s series”, Harrison said. “It’s always interesting watching the juniors compete in tag team as it’s a rare opportunity for them to represent their local Boardriding Clubs”.

GYG JUNIOR SURFTAG is scheduled to start at 8.00am Saturday with the Under 14’s up first.
