Fond Farewell Reg

Seal to the stars, local Northern Beaches celeb Reg the Australian Fur Seal has left us at last for more southern shores.

Manly Observer sat down with the Vice President of ORRCA, Jools Farrell, on Sunday afternoon at the site of Reg’s first ever and possibly last ever local sighting at Long Reef wherein she revealed he had now moved on further down the south coast, perhaps never to return. The interview was captured by our local film crew friends and will be available before Friday on our website.

Reg first visited us in early October 2020 and made repeated visits to our most populated beaches for three months.

ORRCA Vice President and Beaches Local Jools Farrell (right) spoke with Manly Observer editor Kim Smee (left) about Reg the seal’s unprecedented three month stay in the area.

As Reg is old and effectively living out his retirement there’s every chance he will come back for visits, particularly as his kinfolk are probably halfway around the continent by now.

Local filmmaker Tikky Hes, who volunteered her time to film the chat, is in the process of editing the fascinating interview. From Reg anecdotes and insights into the Beaches’ seal populations to detailing what happens when injured marine life hauls up on our shores, it’s a must-see for anyone who has been following #regwatch on socials!
