A 55-year-old local man was arrested and charged with numerous counts of filming people’s private parts earlier this week.
On Monday, 22 July, the man was in Warriewood and allegedly filming up a young girl’s skirt at Kmart at Warriewood Square when he was caught by the girl’s mother, who demanded he hand over a disguised camera and remain in place.
Describing her as a hero, the mother’s partner said she “held the man in situ until the police arrived.”
Manly Observer investigated the claim on Tuesday and verified that Northern Beaches Police Area Command had not only arrested the 55-year-old man at the shopping centre at about 2pm that day but that this in turn led to him being charged with 16 counts of filming persons private parts (including on other occasions) and possess prohibited weapons.
“My partner was heroic in her endeavors and by confronting the man, and effectively making a citizens arrest, lead to police getting [an alleged offender] off the streets,” he wrote in an email to us earlier this week.
The apprehended man was bail refused and appeared before Manly Local Court on Tuesday, 23 July.
He will reappear before the court next month.
