Teenage girls charged over Warringah Mall break-in and Warriewood robbery

Two teenage girls have been charged over an alleged break and enter at Warringah Mall and a robbery at Warriewood Square two days later.

About 11pm on Saturday 26 September, police were called to Warringah Mall after reports of a break and enter in progress.

CCTV footage allegedly showed four young people in the centre’s food court pulling balaclavas and hooded jumpers over their faces before approaching a kiosk. They allegedly manipulated the lock to get in, removed stock and attempted to access the cash register.

Police located the group inside the centre and, after a foot pursuit, arrested a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl. Both were taken to Manly Police Station and charged with a number of offences relating to the alleged break and enter. They were refused bail by police and granted conditional bail at court.

About 4.30pm on Monday 28 September, police were notified of an alleged robbery at Warriewood Square.

Three young females allegedly approached a 14-year-old girl and her two friends and followed them into a car park, demanding money from the girl and claiming she owed it on behalf of her boyfriend.

The girl allegedly handed over money, but the group kept following her. A short time later on Jacksons Road, one of the group allegedly punched her in the head before another allegedly punched and kicked her repeatedly. Her mobile phone and handbag were allegedly stolen. The assault stopped when members of the public intervened.

Northern Beaches Police Area Command officers linked the robbery to the Warringah Mall break and enter. The two girls arrested over the break-in were charged with robbery in company and breach of bail offences. They were refused bail by police and granted conditional bail at Surry Hills Children’s Court.

Man charged over Ausgrid substation break-in at Allambie Heights

A Balgowlah man has been charged after allegedly breaking into an electrical substation at Allambie Heights.

About 10.45pm on Saturday 26 September, Ausgrid security staff contacted emergency services after a CCTV activation at an Ausgrid facility on Rodborough Road. Security allegedly saw a man using power tools to cut through the perimeter fence before entering the secured substation.

Northern Beaches Police Area Command officers found a hole allegedly cut in the fence and, with help from an Ausgrid technician, entered and searched the site. Police allegedly found a backpack containing gloves and other items, along with a Makita band saw, before locating a man hiding inside an empty electrical housing.

He was arrested, and police found a toolbox containing a grinder, reciprocating saw, drills, rubber gloves and various hand tools.

The 45-year-old was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with offences relating to entering the secure facility and attempting to steal property. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on 14 October.

Police warn parents over sextortion

Police are urging parents and carers to talk to their children about sextortion after a number of recent reports involving young victims.

Several young people have reported being targeted after taking and sharing intimate images online. Offenders have allegedly demanded money and threatened to send the images to family and friends or post them on social media if they weren’t paid.

The latest reported victim is a 13-year-old from Killarney Heights, who was allegedly targeted after sharing intimate images with a person online. The offender then demanded money and threatened to release the images if payment wasn’t made.

Police are encouraging parents to have open conversations with their children about online safety, the risks of sharing intimate images, and what to do if they are approached or threatened online.

Anyone targeted by sextortion should not pay, should stop all contact with the offender, keep any evidence and report the matter to police immediately.
