A woman hit by a car while crossing Pittwater Road in Manly this morning is in a stable condition but undertaking further scans for head and pelvic injuries.
The 32-year-old, an employee at Little Lane daycare where she was heading for work at 7.30am this morning, was struck by a Land Rover SUV while crossing the road. While the woman doesn’t have family here, her closest friends have been contacted.
NSW Police told Manly Observer the woman became trapped under a nearby parked VW Golf after she was struck. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition with head and pelvic injuries.
Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The driver of the Land Rover, a 49-year-old man, was uninjured and returned a negative result in a roadside breath test.
The state-managed road has been criticised by local residents as a dangerous traffic area which puts pedestrians at risk. A petition was launched last April; a request for reduced speed in that was denied.
We have media requests with NSW Transport regarding any potential actions relating to the stretch of road and enquired with Northern Beaches Council because Mayor Michael Regan ordered a safety audit after last year’s incident.
We will update this article as these responses and more information becomes available.
