Manly Warringah Gymnastics Club breaks ground

Demolition at the former North Manly Bowling Club at Nolan Reserve has begun, making way for Manly Warringah Gymnastics Club’s (MWGC) Centre of Excellence.

“This project has been years in the making, and to see demolition works begin is incredibly exciting for our club and our community,” MWGC CEO David Krantz said.

“This Centre will transform the way people engage with movement. From toddlers taking their first steps in the gym to Olympians preparing for the world stage.”

The state-of-the-art facility will not only serve as a high-performance training hub for elite gymnasts, including athletes striving towards future Olympic Games, but also as a community space for all ages.

“The Centre of Excellence is more than just a gymnastics facility; it’s a community hub,” MWGC Chairperson Amanda Wyzenbeek said.

“Our members already range in age from six months to 80 years old, and this Centre will ensure that every person, no matter their age or ability, has the opportunity to be active, connected, and inspired.”

MWGC secured a 30-year lease arrangement with Council to construct, fund and operate a world-class indoor gymnastic Centre of Excellence at Nolan Reserve.

The development was approved by Sydney North Planning Panel in August 2024 and is expected to cost $10 million. MWGC secured a $5.15 million grant from NSW Office of Sport’s Centre of Excellence Grant Funding and an additional $5.15 million grant under the Federal Government Thriving Suburbs Program.

Demolitions is expected to be completed by mid-October 2025 with construction of the new facility scheduled to begin in February 2026.

The Centre of Excellence is scheduled to officially open to the public in early 2027.
