“Loud Bang” on Beaches a boat explosion – none dead

Police have confirmed that a boat explosion is responsible for the loud bang heard throughout homes along the Northern Beaches peninsular this evening.

About 7.50pm today (Saturday 13 March 2021), emergency services responded to reports of an explosion on a boat, at a wharf on Beaconsfield Street, Newport (Newport Anchorage).

Northern Beaches Police Area Command said they found one woman with lacerations to her and body.

Reports that there were six people on board are incorrect, police said, confirming only one person was present.

The woman, aged 54, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

There was no one else on board the boat, which was extensively damaged and sank as a result of the incident.

A crime scene was established.
