Balgowlah mother of three Natalie Bromwich is more than proud to be labelled a homemaker. After all, she is devoted to helping others create their dream home.
After studying for a business degree and working in the banking industry – renovating a number of homes along the way – Natalie founded the unique home-styling business Place & Palette, which takes the guesswork, the stress, and lots of the cost out of home renovations.
“I really love to help people realise the potential of their home – creating spaces they can’t wait to come home to,” she says.
“We are an interior fit-out shop that comes to you. Our clients don’t have to visit multiple stores trying to find and compare products, fittings and finishes – they can shop from our extensive range of bathware, tiles, joinery and more, all in their own home, with the expert advice of our interior stylists,” says Natalie.
Natalie traces her passion for renovation and restyling back to her childhood. Her grandfather, a skilled carpenter, built a treasured holiday shack where many great family memories were created. Her family also created a manufacturing business specialising in textiles.
“I believe my love for design and property is deeply rooted in these experiences – blending creativity and craftmanship,” says Natalie.
“I have always found my style inspiration by paying homage to the house I was renovating; however, I personally love the Scandinavian style as it has the perfect balance of functionality and aesthetics.
“Scandinavian style consists of clean lines, minimalism and a lack of clutter, which can be very appealing visually. The Scandinavian design rarely includes wall-to-wall carpets, preferring to work with either natural stone or timber for the flooring and employing the use of lots of rugs.
“The beauty of Scandinavian design is that it’s incredibly versatile and can fit seamlessly with almost any style and era, and can stand the test of time.”
Is there a ‘Manly’ or ’Northern Beaches’ style?
“The Northern Beaches has a rich history of beautiful architecture, however in recent years the Modern Australian Coastal style has definitely been a game changer, especially in the knockdown/rebuild space.
“Its ‘Hamptons-meets-tropical Queensland’ and is perfect for the Northern Beaches lifestyle. The key to Australian Coastal Style is texture. This design style evokes a relaxed and laid-back look, and the elements required to achieve this include natural materials – timbers, stone, neutral colours and natural light.”
Natalie’s considerable experience in property renovation – with more than 20 years experience under her belt – was significantly enhanced by the arrival of three children (now in primary school).
“Becoming a mum really highlighted how time-poor we can be … which fuelled my commitment to simplifying the renovation process for families. I also came to appreciate, more than ever, the importance of a safe and functional home.”
“I also came to appreciate, more than ever, the importance of a safe and functional home.”
Natalie says many people underestimate the complexity involved at each stage of a renovation, and often think that professional help is out of their price range.
“That’s where Place & Palette comes in – with expert advice on interior fitout selections and outdoor living options that are affordable and effective.”
An important first step is working with clients to establish their needs and their personal ‘style’.
“Helping clients to choose the right interior design style is key to our success. We do this with a quick quiz when they book online via our website www.placeandpalette.com.au.”
Place & Palette’s unique shop-at-home service is supplemented by an online store. Additionally, they have the expertise to provide conceptual design and layout planning including visuals, 3D renders and samples, with advice on every aspect from lighting to fabrics – as well as complete design management and execution.
Natalie has a guiding principle for her new business and her goal in helping clients: “The most beautiful house in the world is the one that feels like home to you.”
