Looking for something to occupy restless kids during the school holidays?
The licence for Frozen the Musical became available to local theatre companies last year and Stage Artz jumped at the opportunity to bring the cool to Glen Street Theatre.
It’s a big production for Stage Artz on a number of levels. Not the least of which is that it’s the 25th year of the company, which has exclusively raised money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation (SCHF).
“We are incredibly thankful for the support of Stage Artz which, in that 25 years, has done amazing fundraising and been wonderful advocates for the Children’s Hospital,” SCHF Community Engagement Officer Matt Foulkes says.
He says monies raised by Stage Artz would have been used for the most pertinent needs faced by the hospital at any given time. “Recently, it would have gone towards the building of the new hospital at Westmead,” he says.
“We are fortunate to have a number of lifetime benefactors. Stage Artz is a significant member of this group and we are extremely appreciative.”
For those who don’t know, Frozen is about two sisters … actually, everyone knows what it’s about! It’s a hugely successful film in the Disney canon.
This is the 22nd production Stage Artz has put on, with a couple of years missed due to the pandemic.
What to expect? It includes all the film’s beloved songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with new music written exclusively for the stage. There are the usual Disney tropes of good humour, discovery of inner-power, and inanimate objects being able to talk (read the snowman).
Stage Artz founder Sam Neaves says it’s the company’s biggest production in its 25-year history. “So far we have raised more than $400,000 for the Foundation,” she says.
It’s on from September 26 to October 3 at Glen St Theatre, Belrose. Matinee and evening performances will be held throughout the season.
