Freak wind blows women out to sea

Two kayakers were caught up in the freak wind and storm that hit Manly yesterday afternoon, 16 July.

The women were carried half a kilometre from shore by the sudden gusts. They were out from Blue Fish Point at North Head.

At about 4pm, one of the kayakers was able to paddle back to land and call for help while the other, who we understand had lost a paddle, was holding onto her vessel after being knocked off by the wind.

Sydney water police rescued the woman and took her to Shelly Beach. Neither was injured.
