Residents safe after midnight fire in Frenchs Forest

Shortly after midnight last night (Sunday morning), Fire and Rescue NSW received a Triple Zero call for a house fire on Fitzpatrick Avenue East in Frenchs Forest.

Within eight minutes of the call, 25 firefighters from Manly, Dee Why, Forestville, Narrabeen and Willoughby stations attended the scene and observed smoke coming from the house. The residents of the home had already self-evacuated and were waiting for the firefighters.

The fire was located between the second level and the attic, and firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire by pulling down gyprock and pulling up floorboards.

“The firefighters did an outstanding job containing the fire to the area of origin,” a spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW said.

There was smoke and water damage to other parts of the home. Firefighters remained at the residence until 5am to conduct salvage and overhaul operations, pulling down gyprock to ensure the fire remained extinguished.

“The cause of the fire is not suspicious, and no additional investigations will happen at this time,” the spokesperson added.

The residents were treated for smoke inhalation by Ambulance NSW but did not require transport to hospital. They spent the night at a family friend’s home.

Fire and Rescue NSW would like to remind people, as we are coming into winter, to have a working smoke alarm and a home evacuation plan. This includes how to call Triple Zero (000), what to ask for when speaking to the operator, and where to meet the firefighters.
