Fire at North Head a planned burn

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is tonight conducting a Hazard Reduction burn at North Head (Wednesday 1 October.)

The works are planned to be conducted at North Head Aeolian 1-2 HR North Head Sanctuary, 33 North Head Scenic Drive, Manly.

Plans for the hazard reduction were two years in the making but were cancelled in March and again last Monday to play it safe after some sudden winds.

It was a surprise increase in wind that turned a multi-agency hazard reduction at North Head from a 9 hectare into a 46 hectare blaze in October 2020 (pictured)so the lead agency for this burn, Fire and Rescue NSW, erred on the side of caution.

The area is classified as a difficult burn due its location, wind exposure and vegetation. It sits next to the Montessori childcare centre as well as WOTSO workspace building and a fitness facility. These facilities have been notified and have management plans in place.
