E-bike rider critical after collision with truck at Mona Vale

A serious collision between a vehicle and e-bike rider on Barrenjoey Road in Mona Vale this afternoon has left a man with critical injuries and created traffic chaos on the Northern Beaches.

With two of three southbound lanes closed for the emergency response, traffic remains at a standstill at 4:20pm.

A man in his 50s, who was the rider, is now confirmed to be in a critical condition with head, chest and pelvic injuries.  A witness said the injured man was on the road in shorts and a singlet.

A toll ambulance helicopter landed at nearby Kitchener Park at Mona Vale and airlifted him to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police confirmed that a truck driver, a man aged in his 20s , was taken to Mona Vale Hospital for mandatory testing. He was not injured.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command have established a crime scene which is currently being analysed by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

As investigations continue police are urging anyone with information about the crash – or was in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Dee Why Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
