A Seaforth man has been ripped off by a crypto scammer to the tune of $120,000.
In January 2025, a man from Seaforth enrolled in a legitimate cryptocurrency education program.
Shortly after the course, a person impersonating a cryptocurrency trader contact him on Discord, a social messaging platform.
The scammer offered to maximise the victim’s newfound knowledge and invited him to an automated trading opportunity.
The scammer gained the victim’s trust, and over the course of the following few months, the victim transferred over $120,000 of cryptocurrency to addresses controlled by the scammer.
The matter was reported to police on 16 May 2025. Transaction records, including the scammer’s wallet addresses, will be traced; however, the outlook for recovering funds in these cases is bleak.
