Child hit by car dies, Collaroy

A five year old boy who was in a critical condition after he was struck by a car in Collaroy this afternoon, has died.

The boy was resuscitated at the scene after being hit by a vehicle driven by a man in his 70s about 1.30pm Sunday, 30 July.

The child, who was taken by ambulance in a critical condition, died at hospital about four hours later. The road remained closed all afternoon and early evening for police investigation.

Overnight police released the following statement:

“A child has died after being struck by a vehicle on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

About 1.25pm yesterday (Sunday 30 July 2023), emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a child and a vehicle along Anzac Avenue, Collaroy.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 5-year-old boy at the scene. He was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition but died about 6pm that evening.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police.

The driver of the vehicle – a 77-year-old man – was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for mandatory testing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.”
