CareFlight lands at Collaroy after roof fall

A man in his sixties was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition after falling from a roof onto a hard surface before falling into a pool at a Lincoln Avenue residence in Collaroy today, 23 March.

His family contacted emergency services, who responded with a CareFlight helicopter landing on the nearby Pittwater House school oval at 2:10pm.

Police drove through the school to evacuate the oval ahead of the landing.

“The situation did involve several police officers on the oval and the arrival of the helicopter, as our oval was the most suitable green space close to the accident in need of immediate attention,” the school said in a notice to parents.

“It was a difficult incident to manage with the possibility of spinal injuries,” NSW Ambulance Balgowlah Inspector Mark Whittaker told the Manly Observer.

“The patient complained of pain in his back, and we were mindful not to aggravate that injury. Fire and Rescue NSW were called onto the scene to provide special assistance to safely transport the patient, particularly with the hilly nature of the area.”

The man was conscious and talking to emergency services throughout, and was taken by road to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
