The coxed four crew of St Augustine’s College have rowed their way into history after winning the final at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy.
The crew of Brandon Smith, Oliver St Pierre, Joe Lynch, Josh Wilson and cox Ryder Taylor were representing Australia and took out the final just .10 of a second ahead of the crew from Italy.
After Turkey shot out of the blocks, quickly pursued by Italy, South Africa and Germany, the Australian boys sat in fifth in the early stages.
At the halfway it was South Africa and Turkey one and two, with Australia a half-second behind.
But with 300 metres to go the Australians upped their stroke rate and bolted in over the fast-finishing Italy.
