Revealed: Why Sports Editor thinks Manly won’t make the eight

Okay, so it’s not really ‘news’ or something to ‘reveal’, or even anything other than the Sports Editor smashing out a column to get fans yapping.

However, Beaches Champion Editor Matt Cleary has put his head above the parapets to declare, and he hopes he’s wrong, that lingering resentment around the Manly Seven’s decision to boycott a must-win game last season on homophobic religious grounds – a decision that set in train a seven-match losing streak that sent the season off a cliff and cost Des Hasler his job – coupled with uncertainty around Tom Trbojevic‘s twang-happy hamstrings, means the Sea Eagles are unlikely to make the top-8 in 2023.

Support quality local news

Manly Observer is an experiment in providing non-sensationalist hyperlocal news on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We cover the big news across the LGA, but with a hyper focus on the Manly electorate encompassing Balgowlah, Seaforth, Freshwater, Brookvale and Curl Curl up to Dee Why. It is run by those living in the community for the benefit of an informed community. We care about an informed and connected community. That’s it. Simple. Thank you for your support in keeping quality local news alive!
