Police investigate mass ring theft at Manly Markets

Police are investigating a potential theft after a man had thousands of dollars worth of stock go missing from his stall at Manly Markets last weekend, 31 May 2025.

Jason, who owns the jewellery company Bone & Wood, is looking to the public for help after over 450 rings went missing while he was packing up his stall last Saturday.

The jewellery maker said he had left his stock for a few minutes to drop other supplies to his car, when he returned his rings were gone.

“If it was a briefcase full of money, you’d have a chain to your wrist kind of thing, you know, but silly me.. because you’re so trusting of people around you, and the Manly community has been fantastic. I’ve been very well supported throughout the whole ordeal, and up until this point,” Jason told Manly Observer.

“They’re very distinctive. They’re all handmade. So, if people are interested to keep an eye out, they can see my Instagram.

Jason said CCTV from the New Brighton Hotel showed an “opportunistic” man quickly grabbing the jewellery bag and running off with it. Manly Observer asked police for the footage but were told it needs to be reviewed further as the video is not of optimal quality.

Unfortunately, tomorrow will be his first weekend since the shop’s establishment that Bone & Wood will not be in attendance – over a years worth of work has gone missing which was the entirety of the stock.

“I’ve had rings stolen before, but just one or two at a time, and that still stings. But this has really been quite devastating to have every ring that I’ve made, gone.

I have a family to support too. So you know, it’s not just me. They’ve hurt my whole family. So you know, which makes me cranky, because thieves are lazy and they have no sense of value.”
