Newly wed drowns at Shelly Beach

A woman has drowned at Shelly Beach this afternoon. The 32 year old, a newlywed on her honeymoon, was found unresponsive in the water just over an hour ago, about 1pm Wednesday 17 January.

Bystanders, including a person we understand to be her husband,  pulled the woman from the water. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she died at the scene.

We are not currently providing the nationality of the woman as next of kin are  not likely to have been notified. Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command will prepare a report on behalf of the Coroner.
