New venue find: Quakers Hat Brewing in Manly Vale

In early 2022, local photographer Neil Thompson Rees stumbled across a quirky and all-round delightful microbrewery in Manly Vale. He decided to pop in and we asked him to provide a snapshot (and some snaps and shots) of the experience. Here was his take….

If you combine small bar cool with micro brewery authenticity and throw in some family run local pub vibes, you have Quakers Hat Brewery in Manly Vale.

Born out of a passion for home brewing, Dave, Sue and their sons Cam and Nick realised their brews were pretty good, so decided to open the latest micro brewery to pop up on the Northern Beaches, The Quakers Hat.

In a former furniture unit at the bottom of Campbell Parade, Manly Vale you will find a welcoming archetypal, artisan brewery, serving a range of excellent brewed on-premise beers as well as wines, spirits and non/low-alcohol options. They also offer a menu of amazing grazing platters and pizzas including childrens options.

There are a selection of excellent Quakers beers offered as well as one or two locally brewed guest beers and ciders. The tasting paddle is a great introduction for your first time.

Open Fridays 5-9 pm, Saturdays 1-9 pm and they occasionally hold a quiz night on Thursdays 5:30-9 pm (announced on FB & instagram the week prior). Most Saturdays there is also live music from local artists.

Being a small venue, it is always best to book a table especially if you have a few in your party, but if you just drop in, they will go out of their way to accommodate you. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming, with tables surrounded by shiny brewing tanks. Pop in for a quickie or spend some time and try the menu, bring your family and your dog, all are welcome.

Quakers is maybe not the most local of local haunts on the whole Northern Beaches but everyone who finds their way there, local or not, is greeted with the same warm welcome that keeps us all going back.
