Northern Beaches Council announced critical repairs along the Manly to Spit Scenic walkway began on Monday (28 April) at Castle Rock, followed by works at Fisher Bay.
Council asked visitors to plan ahead and follow signs as the work progresses over the next three months.
“While sections of this popular walk have been repaired over the years, it is now essential to undertake works that will ensure the area is safe for everyone and help us reduce costs of repairs in the long run,” Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said in a statement.
The works will be in two stages.
Stage 1 will start at the Castle Rock boardwalk after the Anzac Day long weekend. A 500m signposted detour will direct walkers up Barrabooka Street and onto Ogilvy Road before rejoining the Walk.
Stage 2 will begin after Castle Rock works are completed and focus on the reconstruction of the wooden staircase at Fisher Bay. Signposts will direct walkers to a path between Ellery’s Punt Reserve at the Spit Bridge and Sandy Bay near Clontarf.
During Stage 2, Council recommended for those wanting to begin the walk from the Spit Bridge, to get off at the Heaton Ave bus stop (if travelling south) and at the Spit Bridge (if travelling north) and follow the signs.
“We understand that these closures may cause some inconvenience, but the safety of our community is our top priority,” Mayor Heins added.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to enhance the quality and safety of our beloved Manly to Spit walkway.”
Works as scheduled to end in June 2025, if the weather cooperates.
Please visit the Council’s website (here) for detour maps and up-to-date information on the status of works at both locations.
