A man rescued from the water near Shelly Beach this afternoon has died.
Emergency services were called to Shelly Beach, Manly, about 2.50pm today (Tuesday 16 June) following reports two swimmers had been pulled from the water and one was unconscious.
The man, yet to be formally identified but known to be a US national in his 40s, was spearfishing out past North Head with another man when they became caught in a rip.
They were rescued via jetski and taken to shore. NSW Ambulance paramedics performed CPR and revived him before transporting him to hospital in a critical condition. He later died in hospital.
The other swimmer, a 20-year-old man, was uninjured.
Investigations are continuing. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
