Fire breaks out at hydroponic set up in Brookvale industrial area

A man in his 50s was transported to Northern Beaches Hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire erupted in the Brookvale industrial area this evening

At 5.45pm today, 22 July 2025, Fire and Rescue NSW and Ambulance teams responded to calls of heavy smoke coming from a building on Powells Road, Brookvale.

Three ambulances arrived on scene as well as more than 20 firefighters to extinguish a fire that had broken out on the ground floor of a two level industrial unit complex. The fire is now extinguished and the man being treated is in a stable condition.

What caused the fire is still under investigation.

Update 23 July 2025:

Following his release from hospital, the 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug, cultivate prohibited plant more than or equal to commercial quantity, owner/occupier knowingly allow use as drug premises and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Adam Kristian Cook was refused bail to appear before Manly Local Court today (Wednesday 23 July 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 23 September 2025.

The Brookvale resident was found with 21 grams of methamphetamine and $5390 cash, which is believed to be proceeds made from the crime.

Police will allege in court a hydroponic setup was located inside the property, where about 55 cannabis plants were located and seized.

Mr Cook will appear at Downing Centre Local Court 23 September.
