Woman rescued from roof; update on unrelated dead body in car

Police have updated their advice regarding a dead body found in a vehicle yesterday, saying they had incorrectly advised it was in Manly, when it was in Newport.

The body is yet to be formally identified but police advise at this stage the death appears not to be suspicious or a self harm incident.

The body was discovered just after 3pm yesterday, 29 November 2021.

It is understood the person may have been living in the car and was known to locals.

The address of the body find was mixed up in police communications with the rescue of a woman on a roof in Manly which came through shortly after the discovery.

Manly Observer picked up on the discrepancy while investigating how an identical death had also occurred on the same day.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Meanwhile the roof rescue operation in Manly was successful. Firefighters were called to the scene yesterday evening and reached the woman with a ladder and cherry picker.

It was not an incident of attempted self harm but rather a misadventure. The woman told Manly Observer she was not trapped and had been enjoying the view. Emergency services had advised her to lay flat with her head down until she could be safely returned to solid ground.

Police join Fire and Rescue in attempting to help a person  said to be stuck on the roof of their building this evening.
