Man dies after apparent rock fall, Freshwater

Emergency services are currently on scene at Freshwater Headland after a man, thought to have slipped off rocks, was found dead floating in the surf.

Several bystanders have told Manly Observer the man was first spotted floating in the water near the walkway between the two ocean pools. He had sustained a major head trauma.

“The man slipped off the rocks and was pulled out of the water by volunteer lifeguards of South Curl Curl and Freshwater,” we have been informed.

Witnesses put the man at about 70 or 80 years old, though police have publicly suggested younger.

Police told Manly Observer, an “investigation is underway after a body of a man was found in surf near Freshwater this morning.

“Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Lumsdaine Drive about 10.20am (Saturday 7 October 2023), responding to reports a body was seen in the surf.”

“He is yet to be formally identified, but is thought to be aged in his 60s.”

Inquiries are continuing.
