Car bursts into flame at Seaforth intersection

A major car fire at the Sydney Road and Manly Road intersection in Seaforth has brought traffic to a near standstill this evening, Saturday 24 September.

Fire crews tend to a car which spontaneously burst into flames on Sydney Road this evening, 24 September 2022.

As at 6:15pm emergency crews were still on scene, witnesses say firefighters appear to be trying to remove a battery or some major component from the Toyota. It is not yet clear whether this is a hybrid vehicle and whether the battery is at fault.

Witnesses told Manly Observer the driver, a man in his 30s or 40s, appears safe and well – but a little perplexed –  watching on from the side of the road.

One witness said he spoke to the man as he watched on with horror.

“He said it was his car and he saw it start to smoke then fire coming out so he got out of the vehicle,” he said.

Traffic has been reduced to one lane each way.
