Police are reminding Northern Beaches residents to take precautions after an increase in car thefts over the past week. Officers have responded to a number of incidents and are urging the community to stay vigilant.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Always lock vehicles, even when parked at home.
- Never leave keys inside vehicles or in easily accessible spots.
- Park in well-lit areas where possible.
- Report suspicious activity or persons to police.
Two men have licences suspended over drink-driving
Two men have been charged with mid-range drink-driving offences after separate stops on the same morning during a statewide road safety operation on the Northern Beaches.
At about 7am on Friday 4 September 2026, Northern Beaches Police Area Command officers were conducting stationary random breath testing on the eastbound lanes of Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen, as part of Operation RAID, a statewide operation targeting traffic offences with a focus on impaired driving.
A 28-year-old man was stopped and returned a positive roadside breath test. A subsequent breath analysis allegedly recorded a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) reading of 0.111. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice and is due before Manly Local Court on 23 September 2026. His licence was immediately suspended.
A short time later, a 38-year-old man was also stopped and returned a positive roadside test, allegedly recording a mid-range PCA reading of 0.104. He too was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice, is listed to appear at Manly Local Court on 23 September, and had his licence immediately suspended.
Operation RAID ran across NSW until Saturday 5 September, with police maintaining a visible presence and reminding motorists that alcohol significantly impairs driving ability and increases the risk of serious crashes.
Man charged after North Balgowlah break-in and Sydney CBD theft
A 31-year-old man has been charged following investigations into a break and enter at a North Balgowlah home on 4 September 2026 and the alleged theft of property from a York Street business in the Sydney CBD on 7 September.
Officers from the Northern Beaches Proactive Crime Team and the Sydney City Proactive Crime Team investigated both incidents. On Wednesday, 9 September, police arrested the man and executed a search warrant at a Seaforth address. Further inquiries led detectives to bushland at Seaforth, where they allege they recovered proceeds from the break-in.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on 10 November 2026.
Police investigating damage to Park and Ride boom gates
Northern Beaches Police are investigating two incidents of damage to boom gates at Park and Ride car parks servicing B-Line bus stops.
Damage occurred at the Mona Vale Park and Ride on 4 September 2026 and at the Collaroy Park and Ride on 8 September. Both investigations are continuing, and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed either incident, or who has relevant information, to come forward.
Police seek public help over Manly and Freshwater assaults
Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a person who may be able to assist with an assault investigation at Hotel Steyne, Manly, on 8 August 2026.
