Fire season has officially kicked off with firefighters extinguishing a bush fire at Narrabeen Lagoon in the early hours of this morning, Friday 6 September.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received multiple calls altering them to “small flames in the Deep Creek Reserve,” at around 12:30 am.
Three fire trucks and 12 firefighters from FRNSW Narrabeen, Mona Vale and Manly stations responded to the call and were accompanied by a NSW Rural Fire Service crew (NSW RFS) from Ingleside Station.
First responders on the scene reported a “small amount of bush alight” near the Deep Creek Bridge with no property under threat. Both sides of Wakehurst Parkway were closed during the operation.
Firefighters wasted no time putting out the fire, using water from their trucks, and utilising a pump to source additional water from the lagoon. By 1:30 am the fire was reported as extinguished, FRNSW and NSW RFS then spent some time ‘mopping up’ before leaving the scene at 2:12 am.
At this point, it is unknown what caused the fire, but it was noted that callers should ring triple zero to report fires and other emergencies rather than ring local stations.
